Created for Room 83, a gallery outside of Boston. Video in a gallery setting presents unique problems. Traditional story films are difficult with a mobile audience able to enter or exit the piece at any time. The video is made to loop with dissolves between each section. It starts where it ends with a huge murder of crows seeking to roost for the night above a classic New England factory. I am cautious about adding sound to a video shown in the gallery. At times it can become annoying to the gallery sitters and guards. I like to push the sound into the background sounds of the gallery. Adding a “pad” to the space. The original video was recorded in Lawrence, MA for a solo show at the Essex Art Center focusing on the annual crow migration to that town. Nearly 30,000 crows appear in December to roost along the banks of the Merrimack River.

This video was created for the RI School of Design inauguration of Rosanne Somerson as president. It was projected on a thirty- five foot screen suspended thirty feet in the air over a busy street. The work has also been screened in the RISD Museum. Created with After Effects and Maya.

I bought a house in Providence in 1980. The pigeons were there roof sitting on a neighbors house. An elderly man would leave them grains and bread. They were there in the sky every day rain or shine. Some of them died others were born to take the place of the dead. They are not the most graceful flyers but they land like little angels.

The Hand was made around 1976 at the Electron Mover Studio. It is an example of Dennis' early video work.

Electron Movers was founded in 1974, Dennis Hlynsky was a founding member and worked out of the studio until it's closing in 1979.
